The message from the Heart of Midlothian camp after the penalty shootout defeat to St Mirren in the Premier Sports Cup on Saturday is that the loss cannot be allowed to derail the team any further.
It is, Beni Baningime believes, just "a bump in the road".
Hearts struggled in the first half but, following changes at half-time, were the better team but didn't do enough in either the second half or extra-time to win the game before it went to penalties.
Now it is a case of bouncing back. Motherwell come to Tynecastle Park on Saturday and the expectation is that Hearts win. That is followed by a trip to newly-promoted Livingston before the first international break of the season.
“It was a tough first half, but I thought the second half, with the changes, was a different game and obviously extra time," Baningime said.
“It’s a tough one to take. It's hard to take positives out of losing, but I think you've got to.
“It's happened, and you've lost, you've got to move on, and you've got to bounce back as quickly as you can."
He added: “I think from the pre-season, one of our games we even beat a Premier League side, it's been good so far. It's a bump in the road.
“The game could have gone either way. That's what penalties are. We could be coming in and saying, oh, a great win.
“Unfortunately for us, that wasn't the case. But it's happened, a we have to try not to allow this to derail us any further."
To some, it may well have been a surprise to see Baningime step up among the first five penalty takers, but he demonstrated his composure and quality from the spot with one of the best spot kicks in the shootout.
He had no issue taking on that responsibility and stepping up, although he wanted the forwards to go first.
“I was down to take one, yeah," he noted. "The gaffer asked me, How are you feeling? I was like, yeah, I'm fine.
“For me, I just said, I want the attacking players to go first. Because ultimately, they should be going first. Just because they're better than me. If it were 1v1s or tackles, then I'd be like, No, I'll go first.
“So for me, I'm 27 the next month, so I'm not a kid anymore, I need to try and take on more responsibilities. When the gaffer called my number, I was like, yeah, fine."
Those responsibilities include helping pick players up ahead of next weekend.

Baningime has been around the club for a while now and has the experience of having to bounce back from adversity.
“Oh yeah, 100%. I think as you grow, you've been in the game long enough, you've seen a lot of things, you've experienced a lot of things," he explained.
“So you take on a different role without even someone telling you, just like, OK, well, he's a bit younger than me, or you know people's character, so you end up just taking on responsibilities, and it just fits."
One of those players may well be Claudio Braga. The Portuguese forward was the only player to miss in the shootout.
"He was OK. I think experienced players, we have to get around him and be like, that can happen to anyone," Baningime said. "It could have been me, it could have been Shanks, it could have been anyone.
“Ultimately, for him, the same message that I'm saying to the team, it's happened, it's gone.
“Another day, he scored a goal. So you have to try and move on as quickly as possible, because that's the last thing betting.
“He's had a great start to his Hearts career, so you don't want this thing being the thing that changes that. So hopefully for him, he can bounce back. He's a strong boy, and he'll be OK.
“All the boys will be around him."
