Heart of Midlothian were made to wait to clinch third place after Steven Naismith's side fell to a 3-0 defeat at Celtic Park.

Hearts started brightly but two early goals from Kyogo Furuhashi put the home side in the driving seat before Matt O'Riley added a third from the penalty spot with five minutes to go.

Naismith spoke to BBC Scotland to give his thoughts on the game. Here's everything he said.

What are your thoughts on the game?

It was disappointing, poor and frustrating to get beat 3-0. I think there was loads of good stuff in the performance but it’s small moments. We have got the best defensive record in the league in set-plays so to concede one after a few minutes was disappointing. One because our record is good but secondly because coming to the Old Firm, you need to try and stop that atmosphere building. At this time of the season, in every game the Old Firm are involved in, that start is going to be fast because they need a result. But our reaction from that was good. I think we created more good chances in this game than we did when we won 2-0 here. But then we shot ourselves in the foot with the second goal where we have 100 per cent possession and we give it away cheaply. Against the best teams in the league you are going to be punished. That’s the biggest difference – their decision-making and their quality of finish is there. That’s what inevitably punished us today.

You created good chances but just couldn’t take them?

I think their goalie, Joe Hart, was good and he made some really good saves more than our poor finishing. But they are big moments in the game. Even at 2-0, you could sense at times when we were creating chances that there was a nervousness that can creep in. But if you don’t take your chances… Celtic are the best team in the league and have the most experience to manage that situation, which they did. And then the third goal kills the game off.

Is this more disappointing because you set the bar in your last visit here but fell short of it this time?

I think it’s just the small moments in the game. I think our overall performance was as good as when we won. When you play the best teams those small margins are the difference in the game. For a team where this is our first season together, our overall performance has been good and we have had a really good season. We will learn from these mistakes and in the next few games and next season, we will hopefully push on and make the right decisions in these games – because the games have been tighter than what the scoreline suggests at times.
