Lawrence Shankland is back in contention for Heart of Midlothian’s home fixture against Dundee on Tuesday night after the striker missed Saturday’s 2-1 win over The Spartans.

The Scotland internationalist was absent from the matchday squad for the Scottish Cup tie due to a bout of illness, but returned to first-team training on Monday.

“Lawrence trained today so he’ll be in the squad,” Steven Naismith told Hearts TV.

“It's good to have him back. As we are all aware, he's in good form. As I've said many times, he’s a leader and he has got good leadership skills. He’s playing probably the best football he ever has so it’s good to have him back.”

The Hearts head coach also provided updates on Liam Boyce and Cammy Devlin, both of whom have been missing since picking up knocks of their own during December’s hectic fixture list. Neither will return for the Dundee game.

Naismith said: “Neither of them are at that point. Boycie is back in training. Cammy is still on the pitch but is training individually.”

Barrie McKay, meanwhile, remains sidelined after picking up a knee injury at the tail end of last month, and the playmaker is not expected to return anytime soon.

“It will probably be the second or third week of February by the time he's back on the pitch,” Naismith added.

“That's being optimistic - that's probably more when he will be back on the pitch but he won't be fit to play.

“It's different [to his previous injury], this was because somebody landed on top of him.”
