Steven Naismith has revealed that Jorge Grant will miss Heart of Midlothian's match against St Mirren on Saturday, as well as Wednesday night's Edinburgh derby at Easter Road.

The Englishman suffered an early knock at Celtic Park last weekend but played through the pain barrier before being substituted in the second half.

Speaking to the media ahead of Saturday’s match at home to St Mirren, the Hearts head coach also revealed that Alex Lowry is back in contention after regaining his fitness.

Stephen Kingsley was brought off at the break at Parkhead but the versatile defender is expected to feature against Stephen Robinson's side. However, Liam Boyce's recovery timeline is less clear-cut.

“Alex Lowry is back training,” Naismith told Hearts TV.

“[Stephen] Kingsley came off [against Celtic] but is back training. Jorge Grant is out – he has got the same type of injury as Cammy Devlin and Natty Atkinson had, but not as severe. He will miss the next couple, but I’ve got hope that he will be involved before the break.

“Liam Boyce is the other one. He is just at the final stages but we are reluctant to push him because we’re not comfortable with it. I have been there myself as a player and you can rule yourself out for months if you don’t tread carefully. So he’s not available..”

Naismith was unsure when asked if Boyce would be available for the derby.

“It will be tight,” Naismith added. “It is one of those where we need to get past this last wee bit of this last area.

“If he can hit some numbers then he will be good to go. But we are not willing to push it. It’s more of a day-by-day, week-by-week thing.”

Cammy Devlin remains sidelined with an ankle knock and the midfielder is not expected to return to first-team action until after the Premiership’s winter break.
