Heart of Midlothian ensured they didn't lose any ground in the race for third when they defeated St Johnstone 1-0 at Tynecastle Park as the Scottish Premiership returned following the international break.

Lawrence Shankland netted the winning goal, diverting a Liam Boyce effort past Dimitar Mitov in the Saints goal. It wasn't the most thrilling of encounters but it was one where Hearts walked away with the three points.
