Rocco Friel will leave Heart of Midlothian to join English outfit Queens Park Rangers.

The 17-year-old right-back, who can also slot in at other positions, has attracted interest from a number of clubs south of the border, including Derby County and Championship winners Leicester City, but it is QPR, as first reported by Daily Record, who have won the race for his signature.

Out of contract this summer, Friel will pen a four-year deal with the R's who are managed by Marti Cifuentes, a one-time candidate for the Tynecastle Park head coach position. Because of the players' age Hearts will be due compensation.

The teenager, who signed a professional contract with Hearts in 2022, was heavily involved with Liam Fox's B team at the start of last season, providing assists and scoring a stunning goal against Brechin City in the Challenge Cup. He suffered an injury that kept him out for two months but returned to score a couple of goals in the second half of the campaign and represent Scotland Under-19s.

Friel is not the only youngster set to depart. Hearts Standard understands 15-year-old forward Alfie Hutchison is in line to join Rangers.

Meanwhile, winger Gregor Crookston has followed Kenzi Nair in committing his future to the club until 2026.
