The teenager has impressed playing for Scotland, scoring against Italy and Portugal, and will likely continue to be monitored by clubs down south.

Hearts faced a similar situation with James Wilson who was wanted by several clubs south of the border as well as Celtic and Rangers. The club secured the forward to a new deal and has since made his competitive debut, making three appearances for Steven Naismith's side this season.

Many English clubs have turned their attention north of the border in recent years. Hearts lost midfielder Ewan Simpson to Aston Villa two years ago.
